Divine Farm Sparks Local Jobs as Fiji's Pork Sector Booms

Divine Farm Empowers Fiji Locals Through Pig Farming

Divine Farm is making notable advances within Fiji’s agricultural sector, with a strong focus on pig farming, job creation, and community empowerment. Situated in Verata, Tailevu, the farm currently employs 12 local workers, emphasizing a commitment to integrating community members into its operations and shifting away from the reliance on foreign labor. Among the staff, three are permanent employees while nine are on project-based contracts, showcasing the farm’s dedication to local employment.

Emosi Koroitamana, Director of Divine Farm, articulates the company’s mission to prioritize community development, viewing their employees as partners in progress. This hands-on approach not only engages staff in agricultural activities but also provides training aimed at helping them see agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path. Koroitamana stated, “Our engagement with staff extends beyond typical work settings. We strive to assist with their social needs as well, pushing towards empowering locals.”

The farm’s emphasis on youth engagement and community support is part of a broader movement in Fiji’s agricultural advancements. Notably, a new processing facility in Nadi has been established to enhance market access for rural farmers, reflecting government initiatives aimed at strengthening local agriculture. This push is further supported by upgrades at enterprises like Food Processors Fiji Ltd, which has significantly boosted production capacity and created additional job opportunities.

Fiji’s agricultural sector is undergoing a significant transformation, evident in a record high in pork production. Agriculture Minister Vatimi Rayalu reported that the country processed 11,833 pigs last year, generating 717 tonnes of meat, which substantially contributes to the local economy and reinforces Fiji’s commitment to self-sufficiency in food production.

In this positive atmosphere, Divine Farm’s initiatives exemplify a growing trend toward sustainable agriculture, making impactful contributions both economically and socially. By investing in local talent and nurturing a supportive community, Divine Farm stands as a beacon of hope for agricultural ventures across Fiji, demonstrating that such practices can effectively enhance food security and empower rural populations.
