Disney’s Price Cut: A Response to Guest Dissatisfaction?

Facing increasing customer dissatisfaction and a drop in park attendance, Walt Disney World has been quietly lowering admission and hotel prices over recent months.

In May, Disney introduced a discounted three-day ticket package enabling visitors to experience Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom for $89 per day, although separate tickets for Magic Kingdom are still required.

These reduced ticket prices will be available until September 24 and mark a significant drop from the peak daily Park Hopper pass price of $254.

Additionally, Disney is working to make trips to the Florida resort more affordable by offering discounts on its budget hotel options. A night at Disney’s All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports Resort could range as low as $100, depending on booking dates. This represents a savings of up to 27% from standard rates, according to Bloomberg’s analysis.

The company has also rolled out new dining packages this summer, cutting food costs by 20% to 30%. These packages allow families to purchase all-day meal passes priced at $30 for children and $95 for adults, redeemable for select meals and snacks across the parks. Disney World is reportedly adding more quick-service meal options, lowering children’s food prices, and introducing flexible restaurant policies.

Experts attribute heightened food costs within the parks as one reason for the decline in customer satisfaction.

Len Testa, president of TouringPlans.com, which conducts annual surveys of Disney visitors, noted a significant drop in customer satisfaction ratings from 90% to 60% as Disney transitioned from a la carte dining to fixed-price meals at many popular restaurants.

While Testa commended Disney’s cost-cutting measures, he warned that these changes may not genuinely reflect a commitment to affordability or consumer satisfaction.

“Disney has long been willing to sacrifice a certain number of positive ratings for a certain amount of revenue,” he said.
