Disney’s Discounts: A Response to Falling Attendance and Customer Dissatisfaction?

Walt Disney World has been implementing admission and hotel stay discounts amid growing customer dissatisfaction and decreasing park attendance.

Since May, the park has offered three-day ticket packages that allow access to Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom for $89 per day. Tickets to Magic Kingdom must be purchased separately. These lower ticket prices, effective until September 24, mark a significant decline from the previous peak price of $254 for a daily Park Hopper pass.

In addition, Disney is working to reduce the overall cost of visiting the Florida resort by slashing prices on its budget hotel accommodations. Stays at Disney’s All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports Resort can be booked for as low as $100 per night, a discount of up to 27% compared to standard rates.

The parks have introduced new dining packages this summer, which offer savings of 20% to 30% on food costs. Families can buy all-day meal passes priced at $30 for children and $95 for adults, applicable for various meals and snacks throughout the parks. Disney is also expanding quick meal options and providing more affordable food for kids alongside flexible restaurant policies.

Experts attribute the decline in customer satisfaction, which dropped from 90% to 60%, partially to heightened food prices within the parks. Len Testa, president of TouringPlans.com, remarked that the shift from a la carte dining to fixed-price meals at popular restaurants contributed to this decline. While Testa commended Disney’s cost-cutting measures, he cautioned that these actions might not signify a genuine commitment to improving affordability or guest satisfaction.
