Disney has announced significant progress on its Tropical Americas project, an ambitious and somewhat controversial initiative at Disney World. Recently, construction reached a notable milestone as vertical elements of the new Encanto ride started to take shape. Avid theme park photographer Bioreconstruct has shared aerial images showcasing the substantial advancements, including the rising structural steel for the show building in Animal Kingdom.

The Tropical Americas project, which was first unveiled during last August’s D23 event, signifies a major transformation for the park’s DinoLand area. Originally, Disney hinted at integrating beloved franchises like Zootopia and Moana into a reimagined space. However, plans evolved, leading to the announcement that DinoLand will morph into a new area inspired by South American aesthetics and cultural motifs.

Among the project’s highlights are two major attractions: one themed around the adventures of Indiana Jones and another based on Disney’s Encanto. This change marks a bittersweet moment for fans, as DinoLand has been a staple of Animal Kingdom since it opened. The thrill ride DINOSAUR, a centerpiece of the original land, is scheduled for permanent closure in February, signaling an end to the dinosaur-themed experiences.

Disney’s official description of the Encanto attraction hints at an enchanting experience. Guests will journey into the magical world of the Casita, where the character Antonio, who recently received the ability to communicate with animals, sets off on an adventure. This immersive attraction promises to capture the essence of the film and provide a unique interaction with various members of the Madrigal family.

The Tropical Americas project is part of a broader initiative at Walt Disney World, which includes several upcoming lands such as Piston Peak and Monstropolis. These projects are expected to bring extensive renovations and new experiences throughout the parks, with anticipated openings in 2027.

As Disney continues its commitment to enhancing guest experiences, the transformation of its parks invites both excitement and reflection on the beloved attractions being replaced. Fans can look forward to ongoing updates as Disney shapes the future of its iconic theme parks.
