Disney World Slashes Prices: Is It Enough to Win Back Guests?

Walt Disney World has been reducing admission and hotel prices amid growing customer dissatisfaction and declining park attendance. In May, the company introduced discounted three-day ticket packages, allowing visitors to experience Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom for $89 per day, though Magic Kingdom tickets must be purchased separately. This promotion will run until September 24 and represents a significant drop from the previous peak price of $254 for a daily Park Hopper pass.

In addition to ticket discounts, Disney is also lowering the prices of its budget hotel options, with rates at Disney’s All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports Resort starting as low as $100 per night depending on the booking date. These reductions can amount to a 27% decrease compared to normal rates, according to a Bloomberg analysis.

This summer, new dining packages have been introduced, offering savings of 20% to 30% on meals at the parks. Families can purchase all-day meal passes for $30 per child and $95 per adult, which can be used for various meals and snacks. The parks are also providing more quick meal options, less expensive food options for children, and more flexible dining policies.

Experts attribute the dip in customer satisfaction to rising food costs within the parks. Len Testa, president of TouringPlans.com, noted that approval ratings for Disney customers fell from 90% to 60% as the company shifted from a la carte dining to set-price meals at many popular restaurants. Although Testa commended Disney’s recent cost-cutting measures, he expressed concern that these changes may not genuinely reflect a commitment to affordability or guest satisfaction, stating that Disney has historically balanced positive guest ratings with revenue generation.
