Disney World Slashes Prices: Is It Enough to Win Back Guests?

Walt Disney World has been implementing various discounts on admission and hotel stays in response to increasing customer dissatisfaction and a drop in park attendance. Over the past several months, the resort has introduced discounted three-day ticket packages that allow visitors to access Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom for $89 per day. However, tickets to Magic Kingdom must still be purchased separately.

These lower ticket prices, available until September 24, mark a significant reduction from the peak price of $254 for a daily Park Hopper pass. Additionally, Disney is working to lessen the overall cost of a trip to the resort by offering discounts on its most affordable hotel options. A night at Disney’s All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports Resort could start as low as $100, depending on the booking timing, representing discounts of up to 27% compared to standard rates.

The parks have also launched new dining packages this summer, aiming to cut meal expenses by 20% to 30%. Families can purchase all-day meal passes for $30 per child and $95 per adult, applicable to select meals and snacks throughout the parks. To further enhance dining options, Disney World is providing more quick meal choices, affordable kids’ meals, and flexible restaurant policies.

Experts attribute the rising cost of dining within the parks as a key factor contributing to decreased customer satisfaction. Len Testa, president of TouringPlans.com, pointed out that customer satisfaction ratings dropped from 90% to 60% as Disney transitioned from a la carte dining to fixed price meals at many popular restaurants.

Testa acknowledged the effectiveness of Disney’s cost-cutting measures but warned that these changes may not genuinely reflect a commitment to affordability or guest satisfaction, stating that Disney has historically balanced positive customer ratings with revenue.
