Disney World Faces Safety Scrutiny After Third Death at the Contemporary Resort

A guest at Walt Disney World has died following a medical emergency at the Contemporary Resort, marking the third reported death at the Florida resort in just a few days. The deceased has been identified as Matthew Cohn, who passed away on Thursday. An official from the Orange County Medical Examiner’s office stated that the examination is ongoing, and thus the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

Witnesses reported seeing a significant presence of law enforcement and emergency responders at the Bay Lake Tower section of the Contemporary Resort. One attendee shared a video on TikTok, noting the medical emergency and extending prayers to the family involved.

This incident follows the tragic death of Summer Equitz, who reportedly died by suicide at the same resort earlier in October. Medical reports indicated that Equitz succumbed to “multiple blunt impact injuries,” with earlier social media claims incorrectly suggesting she was involved in a collision with the resort’s monorail. Authorities clarified that she was not struck by the monorail, describing the preceding reports as erroneous.

Additionally, another guest was found unresponsive at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. This marks a concerning series of events at the popular destination.

Similar incidents have occurred at Disneyland, where a woman in her 60s died after riding the Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction on October 7. Security personnel administered CPR until paramedics arrived, but the guest was eventually pronounced dead.

These recent events have raised concerns about guest safety and well-being at Disney resorts. However, visitors and families are reminded to reach out for support and mental health resources if needed, as tragedies like these can impact the wider community.
