Disney+ has officially announced the highly anticipated premiere date for “The Testaments,” a new original drama series that promises to be an evolution of the critically acclaimed “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Set to debut on April 8th, 2026, in the UK, the series will kick off with three episodes, offering viewers a captivating glimpse into life in Gilead. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly.

Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, “The Testaments” tells the compelling coming-of-age story of two young girls, Agnes and Daisy. While Agnes embodies the dutiful and devout ideals of Gilead, Daisy emerges as a new convert from beyond the regime’s borders. The duo navigates the strict and often brutal environment of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, where blind obedience is enforced under the guise of divine purpose. Their evolving friendship serves as a powerful catalyst for change, challenging the foundations of their existence.

The series stars Ann Dowd, known for her impactful performances, alongside Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, and Mabel Li, among others. The creative team is led by showrunner Bruce Miller, with executive producers that include Warren Littlefield and Elisabeth Moss, who is also known for her role in the original series. Mike Barker is set to direct the first three episodes.

With its gripping narrative and strong character development, “The Testaments” is expected to draw in audiences who were captured by the intense themes of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” The announcement also highlights Disney+’s extensive library of entertainment options available to subscribers, ensuring that there is content for everyone.

As a family-friendly platform, Disney+ provides robust parental control features, allowing families to curate viewing experiences that align with their values while enjoying a diverse array of programming. This commitment enhances the platform’s appeal as a go-to destination for quality entertainment.

Fans of Atwood’s work and newcomers alike will have a lot to look forward to as “The Testaments” prepares to take audiences deeper into the haunting world of Gilead, exploring themes of resistance, friendship, and power.
