Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from his reelection campaign. Disney, the granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would withhold her financial support until the party replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.
In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her decision, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has exited the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
When she initially announced her intent to stop contributions, Disney expressed her support for Harris, praising her capabilities as Vice President. She urged the Democratic Party to rally around Harris and suggested that if the party accepted her perceived shortcomings with a fraction of the tolerance shown toward Biden, they could achieve significant electoral success.
Disney’s discontent with Biden reflects a broader sentiment among elite donors within the Democratic Party, particularly after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from the donor class and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to step down. Following the announcement, prominent donors like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
