Disney Heiress Shifts Support to Harris: What’s Next for the Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection. Earlier this month, Disney stated she would halt her contributions until the party replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.

In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. When she initially opted to withhold donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris.

“We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney remarked.

Disney was among several elite donors in the Democratic Party who expressed discontent with Biden after what was viewed as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from the donor class, along with dwindling funds, contributed to Biden’s decision to step back from the race.

Notable Democratic donors George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris after Biden’s announcement.
