Heiress Abigail Disney has announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 election. Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, declared that she would stop contributing to the party unless Biden stepped aside.
In an email to CNBC on Monday, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s announcement of his exit from the race and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she first revealed her decision to halt donations, Disney also expressed her backing for Harris, emphasizing the Vice President’s strengths. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s—and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity—if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressures from major donors and declining financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to step down. Following Biden’s announcement, billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Vice President Harris.
