Disney Heiress Revives Donations: What’s Behind Her Support for Kamala Harris?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her contributions to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

In an email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor in the presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney had declared that she would halt her donations until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. During that time, she also expressed her support for Harris, saying, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney’s previous decision to withhold donations was part of a broader backlash from elite Democratic donors who were dissatisfied with Biden’s performance, particularly following a challenging debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from these donors contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris after the announcement regarding Biden’s exit.
