Disney Heiress Revives Donations: What Changed Her Mind?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided not to seek reelection.

Previously, Disney had stated that she would halt her financial contributions to the party until Biden stepped down, indicating her preference for a change at the top of the ticket. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support, citing Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as pivotal factors in her decision.

When she initially put a stop to her donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President.” She criticized the party for being more forgiving of Biden’s perceived shortcomings compared to how it reacted to Harris’s faults, highlighting the issues of race and gender in this discrepancy. She expressed optimism that if Democrats could rally behind Harris, they could secure a significant victory in the upcoming election.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following what was considered a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from influential donors and dwindling financial support contributed to Biden’s decision not to run again.

Additionally, billionaire donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
