Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 election.
Disney, who is the granddaughter of one of The Walt Disney Company’s co-founders, had previously stated that she would cease contributions until a new presidential candidate was selected. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her renewed support now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
When she first revealed her intention to halt donations, Disney voiced her support for Harris, emphasizing the vice president’s qualifications. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.
Disney was part of a group of high-profile Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden, especially after his lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and a decline in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.
Additionally, prominent philanthropist George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris following the announcement of Biden’s departure from the election.
