Disney Heiress Revives Donations After Biden’s Exit: A Shift in Democratic Support?

Abigail Disney, an heiress connected to the founding of The Walt Disney Company, announced that she will resume her financial contributions to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney stated she would halt any donations until the party replaced Biden as the candidate for president. However, in a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her intention to support the party again now that Biden has stepped aside and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When Disney initially declared her decision to stop donations, she made it clear that she supports Harris. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she stated.

Disney was among a group of elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from financial backers and declining funds contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw. Following this development, notable donor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also expressed their support for Harris.
