Disney Heiress Revives Donations After Biden Exits: What’s Next for the Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to exit the 2024 presidential race. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously declared that she would cease contributions to the party until Biden was replaced as the candidate.

In a statement to CNBC, Disney confirmed her renewed support, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting now that Biden has stepped down and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.” Earlier this month, when she initially withheld donations, Disney had already expressed support for Harris.

Disney commented on Harris’s capabilities, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Her decision came amid a wave of discontent from elite Democratic donors following Biden’s underwhelming debate performance against former President Donald Trump, which reportedly contributed to his decision to withdraw. Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris following Biden’s announcement.
