Disney Heiress Revives Democratic Support After Biden’s Exit: What’s Next?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Disney, who is a descendant of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated her intention to halt contributions until Biden stepped aside. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden’s exit and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred successor.

When she made her announcement to pause donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, emphasizing the need for the Democratic Party to unite behind her. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.

Disney was among a group of prominent Democratic donors who grew frustrated with Biden, particularly after his poor performance in debates against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that growing pressure from donors and a decline in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw. Additionally, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, have also thrown their support behind Harris after Biden’s announcement.
