Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 election and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, indicated that she would cease contributions to the party until a new candidate was named to replace Biden. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to step down and back Harris for the presidency.
When she first declared her intention to halt donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, noting, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several elite Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and dwindling contributions contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race. Following Biden’s announcement, prominent donors such as George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also threw their support behind Harris.
