Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 election and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
Earlier this month, Disney stated she would halt all contributions to the party until Biden was replaced as the nominee. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed her return to supporting the party, citing Biden’s endorsement of Harris as a key factor in her decision.
When she first declared her intention to suspend donations, Disney expressed her strong support for Harris, praising her capabilities as Vice President. She remarked on the disparities in how the party has treated Harris compared to Biden, highlighting issues of race and gender in this dynamic. Disney emphasized that if the Democratic Party could unite behind Harris, they would have a strong chance of winning the upcoming election.
Disney, along with other prominent Democratic donors, had expressed discontent with Biden following his unfavorable debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from these high-profile contributors played a role in Biden’s decision to step aside. Notably, financier George Soros and his son Alex Soros also voiced their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
