Disney Heiress Resumes Support for Democrats: What’s Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will reinstate her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to drop his reelection bid. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt contributions until a new candidate replaced Biden at the top of the ticket.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her renewed support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When she decided to withhold funding, Disney also expressed her backing for Harris. She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed discontent with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that the pressure from the donor community and dwindling funds contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Following Biden’s announcement, both George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
