Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 race.
Earlier this month, Disney stated that she would halt her contributions to the party unless Biden stepped down as the candidate. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” after Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him.
Alongside her decision to pause donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”
Disney was among several elite donors in the Democratic Party who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from donors and a decline in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.
Notably, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their endorsement of Harris in light of Biden’s exit from the presidential race.
