Disney Heiress Resumes Support for Democrats After Biden’s Exit

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will begin supporting the Democratic Party again now that President Joe Biden has exited the 2024 presidential race.

Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, stated earlier this month that she would cease her contributions to the party until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s withdrawal and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

When she initially decided to halt her donations, Disney expressed her support for Harris, remarking on the Vice President’s capabilities. She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s… if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from major donors and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris after Biden’s announcement.
