Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial support for the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has stepped aside in the 2024 presidential race.
Boeing is seeking to raise $19 billion amid challenges such as delivery delays and worker stoppages.
Abigail Disney, whose grandfather co-founded The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt contributions to the Democratic Party until Biden was replaced as the presidential candidate. In a recent email to CNBC, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
When she made the announcement to withhold donations, Disney also expressed her support for Harris, commending her qualifications. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” Disney remarked.
Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who became disillusioned with Biden after what many viewed as a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris.
