Disney Heiress Resumes Donations as Biden Exits Race: What’s Next for Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will restart her donations to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, had previously stated earlier this month that she would halt her contributions until the party replaced Biden as the candidate.

In a recent email to CNBC, Disney confirmed her change of heart, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

When Disney initially announced her pause on donations, she expressed her backing for Harris. She remarked on the challenges Harris faced, citing the different levels of tolerance from the Democratic Party regarding perceived shortcomings compared to Biden. Disney emphasized the need for Democrats to unite behind Harris to secure a significant electoral win.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden following his poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that the pressure from party donors and the decrease in financial support contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, financier George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris after the announcement of Biden’s exit.
