Disney Heiress Resumes Donations as Biden Bows Out: What’s Next for Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney announced that she will begin donating to the Democratic Party again, following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Earlier this month, Disney, whose grandfather played a pivotal role in founding The Walt Disney Company, declared that she would halt her contributions until the party replaced Biden at the top of the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her intention to support the party again, now that Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the position.

When she initially withdrew her financial support, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, highlighting the Vice President’s strong capabilities. She stated, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from influential donors and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to exit the race.

Following Biden’s announcement, notable figures like George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris.
