Heiress Abigail Disney announced she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the race for reelection.
Earlier this month, Disney, who is the granddaughter of one of the co-founders of The Walt Disney Company, stated that she would halt her contributions to the party unless Biden stepped aside. However, in an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
At the time she decided to withhold donations, Disney had already expressed her backing for Harris. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity) and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot,” she remarked.
Disney’s decision to withdraw support from Biden came after many elite donors within the Democratic Party expressed discontent with his performance, particularly following a poor debate against former President Donald Trump. Reports indicate that pressure from major donors and a decrease in funding contributed to Biden’s decision to bow out of the race.
Additionally, George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, publicly endorsed Harris following the announcement of Biden’s withdrawal.
