Disney Heiress Rejoins Democratic Donors as Biden Steps Aside: What’s Next?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her donations to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has decided to step aside from the 2024 presidential race.

Disney, whose grandfather was a co-founder of The Walt Disney Company, previously stated that she would halt contributions until a new candidate was chosen to lead the ticket. In an email to CNBC on Monday, she confirmed her return to support, stating, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s withdrawal and endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.

When she initially declared her intention to withhold donations, Disney expressed her backing for Harris, noting the Vice President’s qualifications. “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats could overlook any of her perceived shortcomings to the same extent they have with Biden’s, and if they can come together and support her, we could win this election convincingly,” she commented.

Disney was among several prominent Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. Reports suggest that pressure from high-profile donors and declining contributions contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race.

Notably, billionaire George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also endorsed Harris after Biden’s announcement.
