Disney Heiress Reignites Political Support: What’s Next for the Democrats?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced her intention to resume financial contributions to the Democratic Party now that President Joe Biden has exited the 2024 election race.

Earlier this month, Disney indicated that she would cease donations until Biden was replaced at the top of the ticket. However, in an email to CNBC on Monday, she affirmed, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” following Biden’s decision to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor for the presidency.

When Disney first declared her pause on donations, she expressed her support for Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats could overlook any of her perceived shortcomings even slightly as much as they have with Biden—without ignoring the impact of race and gender in that discrepancy—and if they could unite behind her, we could win this election decisively.”

Disney is among a group of influential Democratic donors who expressed dissatisfaction with Biden after his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump. This discontent from major contributors, alongside a decrease in funding, reportedly contributed to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race. Notably, billionaire investor George Soros and his son, Alex Soros, also voiced their support for Harris after Biden’s announcement.
