Disney Heir Announces Support for Kamala Harris: What Changed?

Heiress Abigail Disney has announced that she will resume her financial contributions to the Democratic Party following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Earlier this month, Disney had stated that she would halt donations until the Democratic Party replaced Biden as their nominee.

In an email to CNBC, she confirmed her support, saying, “Yes, I will resume supporting,” now that Biden has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. Disney previously expressed her backing for Harris when she announced her intention to withhold donations.

Disney emphasized the capabilities of Harris, stating, “We have an excellent Vice President. If Democrats would tolerate any of her perceived shortcomings even one-tenth as much as they have tolerated Biden’s (and let’s not kid ourselves about where race and gender figure in that inequity), and if Democrats can find a way to stop quibbling and rally around her, we can win this election by a lot.”

Her discontent with Biden emerged during the aftermath of his poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump, which sparked frustration among several influential Democratic donors. Reports suggest that pressure from this donor class, who began to withdraw support, contributed to Biden’s decision to step aside. Following Biden’s withdrawal, prominent donors including George Soros and his son Alex Soros also expressed their support for Kamala Harris.
