Disney is set to fully integrate Hulu into its flagship streaming service, Disney+, creating a unified app that will launch in 2026. The announcement comes from Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston during the company’s quarterly earnings call, where they highlighted that customers will still have the option to subscribe separately to both Hulu and Disney+.

This step is seen as a major enhancement to Disney’s streaming offerings, which aims to deliver an extensive package of entertainment, combining top-tier brands and franchises, family programming, news, and live sports in a single platform. Iger stated that this integration will not only provide an “improved consumer experience” but also help reduce subscriber churn by streamlining the services onto a single technological platform, ultimately creating cost efficiencies.

As part of this integration, Hulu will evolve into a global general entertainment brand, replacing the Star tile on Disney+ in international markets starting in the fall of 2025. Additionally, there are plans to enhance the Disney+ app with new features for a more personalized user experience in the coming months.

In a strategic move, Hulu’s live TV service will transition into a joint venture majority-owned by Disney, while still marketing its live TV and Fubo brands separately.

This integration follows Disney’s recent acquisition of Comcast’s stake in Hulu, a deal finalized in June 2025 after extensive negotiations, highlighting Disney’s commitment to consolidating its streaming strategy.

Disney also announced it would stop reporting subscriber numbers for its streaming platforms, aligning with trends seen among other major services. Furthermore, the company unveiled the launch date for its standalone ESPN streaming service at $29.99 per month. Overall, this integration is expected to enhance profitability, engagement, and operational efficiencies, reflecting Disney’s proactive approach to the competitive streaming landscape.

This significant move by Disney promises to deliver a more cohesive and enjoyable streaming experience for subscribers, fostering loyalty and expanding content access, which is a hopeful direction for the company in an increasingly competitive market.
