Disney, Allegations, and a Tornado of Controversy: What’s Really Happening?

Beau DeMayo, the creator of “X-Men ’97,” has seen his attorney respond after Disney announced that DeMayo was dismissed from the series over misconduct allegations. Bryan Freedman, representing DeMayo, criticized Disney’s practices, claiming they hide behind a family-friendly image while allegedly including questionable items in contracts that silence employees and customers.

This statement followed Disney’s announcement, which detailed the reasons for DeMayo’s termination and his credits being removed from the show’s second season. Earlier, DeMayo had expressed on social media that these actions stemmed from his June posts supporting gay pride.

Disney stated that their decision was based on findings from an investigation that uncovered “egregious” misconduct, although they did not specify the nature of the alleged behavior. Sources indicated that the misconduct was sexual in nature, which contributed to DeMayo’s removal and subsequent credit revisions due to breaches of his separation agreement.

Freedman’s statement continued to allege a pattern of illegal behavior by Disney, asserting that when confronted, the company resorts to manipulation and deflecting blame. He vowed to present concrete evidence supporting his claims and indicated that numerous high-profile individuals and clients could corroborate DeMayo’s position.

DeMayo was terminated in March, just prior to the premiere of “X-Men ’97” on Disney+. He had completed work on the first two seasons of the animated series, which has received positive reviews and an Emmy nomination for best animated program.
