Dislocated Elbow, No Surgery: Commanders’ QB Situation Heats Up Ahead of Bye Week

Kurt Warner recently made an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” sharing insights about dislocating his elbow, reminiscent of the injury currently affecting Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.

In Ashburn, Virginia, the latest reports confirm that Daniels has sustained a dislocated left elbow but thankfully incurred no ligament damage, which means he will not be placed on injured reserve. The promising news comes after it was determined that his injury does not necessitate surgery. Washington’s head coach, Dan Quinn, expressed relief, stating, “It’s a good deal with no surgery; obviously that makes a big difference.”

Daniels sustained the injury during a challenging game against the Seattle Seahawks, where the Commanders faced a tough 38-14 defeat. The incident occurred late in the game when his arm bent awkwardly during a sack, raising initial concerns about the severity of the injury. However, after further testing and an X-ray revealing no fractures, the Commanders decided against placing him on injured reserve, opting to reassess his condition during their upcoming bye week following the Week 11 matchup against Miami in Madrid.

Despite the optimism surrounding Daniels’ recovery, the team remains cautious about his status for the remainder of the season. Coach Quinn refrained from discussing the possibility of Daniels returning this season. As the team currently stands at 3-6 and is on a four-game losing streak, they will rely on Marcus Mariota to step in as the starting quarterback during Daniels’ absence.

Unfortunately, the Commanders face additional challenges, with three of their top five receivers sidelined: Terry McLaurin due to a quad injury, Noah Brown on injured reserve with a groin issue, and Luke McCaffrey who is also on IR following a fractured collarbone.

This season has already been a rollercoaster for Daniels, who has missed three games due to obligations with a sprained left knee and a strained right hamstring. In the games he has managed to play, he has passed for 1,184 yards, securing eight touchdowns against two interceptions, while also adding 262 rushing yards and two scores.

The situation remains fluid for Daniels and the Commanders as they navigate through the season, but the recent developments provide a glimmer of hope for his return to the field.
