The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is set to celebrate its annual ‘Free Fishing Day’ on Saturday, June 14, inviting residents to experience fishing without the requirement of a license. This long-standing tradition, which began in 1992, encourages Idahoans to explore various fishing locations across the state, although regulations regarding bag limits, size restrictions, and area closures remain in place.
Jennifer Jackson, communication manager for the Fish and Game Southeast Region, expressed the importance of this event, stating, “Free Fishing Day is just a great way to get the public engaged in fishing.” She emphasized that this initiative not only promotes outdoor activities but also aims to foster a lifelong appreciation for the sport among participants.
To enhance the experience, the Fish and Game Southeast Region will host two special events from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Edson Fichter Nature Area in Pocatello and the Grace Fish Hatchery in Grace. These events will offer assistance for novice anglers, alongside providing bait and tackle while supplies last.
This initiative presents a fantastic opportunity for families and individuals to connect with nature and potentially discover a new favorite pastime. For those interested in participating or finding additional Free Fishing Day events, information is available on the Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s website.
