Fiji Airways men’s sevens playmaker Terio Tamani highlighted the need for improved discipline as the team gears up for the upcoming Vancouver 7s. His comments came after Fiji’s narrow 19-21 defeat to South Africa in the men’s cup final at the Perth 7s held at HBF Park on Sunday evening. In that match, missed opportunities and penalties proved to be costly for Fiji.
Tamani pointed out that discipline was a significant area for improvement, noting, “In some games we were getting yellow cards, and we need to improve on that.” He emphasized that maintaining discipline will be critical as they prepare for future matches.
Despite the loss, Fiji demonstrated strong resilience, fighting back late in the game, but South Africa’s control in the closing moments secured their victory. Tamani believes that focusing on discipline leading up to the Vancouver 7s is essential for the team’s success.
Fiji will now shift its focus to the Vancouver 7s, where they are placed in Pool B alongside formidable opponents Argentina, France, and Australia. The tournament is scheduled for March 7-8, providing the team with an opportunity to bounce back and build on their recent experiences. With a determined mindset, Fiji hopes to harness their potential and improve their game, showcasing the spirit of resilience that has become synonymous with their sevens rugby heritage.
