Fiji Airways men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau has emphasized the importance of discipline as his team gears up for the upcoming Perth 7s tournament. With lessons learned from their recent campaign in Singapore, the team’s primary focus is on their opening pool match against a formidable Argentine squad.
Kolinisau expressed the need to stay grounded, warning against looking too far ahead to future challenges. “We have Argentina first, then Spain. When we get to South Africa, we’ve learned from last week that most of the tries came from kicks. Our defense is solid, and we’ll make necessary adjustments as needed for South Africa,” he stated.
He reiterated the team’s commitment to a one-match-at-a-time mentality, focusing on the task at hand before shifting attention to subsequent opponents. “Right now we want to focus on one game at a time. We have a very good Argentinian side up first. Then we’ll focus on Spain, then South Africa,” Kolinisau said.
Addressing concerns regarding player fitness, Kolinisau reassured fans that despite some minor injuries sustained during the Singapore tournament, the management and medical team are optimistic about the players’ readiness. He pointed out that the squad is recovering well, mentioning Talacolo’s shoulder injury and Teba’s recent contusion, which kept him out of the final against New Zealand for precautionary reasons.
The Fiji men’s 7s team will kick off their Perth 7s campaign against Argentina at 4:20 PM, followed by a match against Spain at 7:36 PM, and concluding their pool stage against South Africa at 10:52 PM. Fans can catch all the action live on FBC TV.
With a disciplined approach and clear focus, the Fiji men’s 7s team is poised to make a strong showing in Perth, fostering hope for a successful tournament.
