Dillingham’s Bright Future: ASU Football’s New Era Begins with Contract Extension

Arizona State University head coach Kenny Dillingham has secured a five-year contract extension just ahead of the Sun Devils’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal game. A source close to the situation revealed that Dillingham will benefit from a pay increase and additional bonuses, although official announcements regarding the deal are yet to come.

Dillingham’s impressive turnaround of the program has not gone unnoticed. In just one season, he transformed the previously struggling Sun Devils from a team with a mere three wins last year to competing in the prestigious Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day against Texas, ranked No. 4. This remarkable success culminated in a Big 12 championship in Arizona State’s inaugural season in the league, despite being projected to finish last in preseason assessments.

At just 34, Dillingham has emerged as a promising figure in college football since he became the youngest head coach in the FBS last year. His first season was fraught with challenges, including injuries and the ongoing repercussions of an NCAA investigation into past recruiting practices. Nevertheless, his leadership has taken the Sun Devils to new heights this season, culminating in a six-game winning streak that secured their place in the College Football Playoff.

Notably, Dillingham made strategic decisions, such as bringing in quarterback Sam Leavitt through the transfer portal and effectively utilizing running back Cam Skattebo, who garnered recognition by finishing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Dillingham’s contract extension reflects not only the success he has achieved so far but also the university’s confidence in his vision for the future of the program.

This development signifies a bright future for Arizona State football, showcasing the potential for continued growth and success under Dillingham’s guidance as they aim to build on their current achievements.
