The atmosphere was electric at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday as Dilkusha Methodist High School (DMHS) hosted its annual inter-house athletics competition, featuring remarkable talent and intense competition in both track and field events.
Principal Satyendra Singh provided insights into the day’s activities, noting the impressive turnout and the spirited rivalry among the school’s four houses. “There is fierce competition among the four houses, and it’s too early to say who will top the medal tally, but it’s clear the houses are neck and neck,” he stated. Notably, Yaka House, the reigning champions for more than five years, are determined to protect their title this year.
DMHS boasts a strong legacy in athletics, particularly highlighted by their performance in the Fiji Finals, where they last clinched a gold medal in 2019. Singh expressed hope that this year would see the school make a significant comeback. “We have some promising athletes, and after today’s events, we’ll identify who to groom for the NNN zone and the Coca-Cola Games,” he added, mentioning that around 10 to 15 athletes are expected to represent the school.
The school showcases strength across various events, such as high jumps, sprints, and long jumps. Singh commended DMHS’s holistic approach, emphasizing the balance between academic excellence and athletic prowess. “Our students are not just excelling in academics but also in sports like athletics, rugby, hockey, and netball,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he urged alumni and supporters to rally around the athletes, inviting parents and guardians to show their support. “We encourage old scholars, parents, and guardians to come out in numbers and support Dilkusha Methodist High School. Our students display great discipline and sportsmanship both on and off the field.”
With a robust community backing and a wealth of talent, DMHS is poised for a thrilling season ahead, eager to enhance their medal count and uphold their proud legacy at the Fiji Finals. The competition not only highlights the school’s athletic capabilities but also fosters a strong sense of community and school spirit among students, alumni, and supporters alike.
