Fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg has expressed that her husband Barry Diller coming out as gay “doesn’t change anything” in their long-lasting marriage. This statement comes months after Diller openly discussed his “fluid” sexuality in his memoir titled “Who Knew,” published in New York magazine.

In a recent interview with Variety, Von Furstenberg addressed what it is like being married to a gay man. She firmly stated, “What’s the difference? I don’t understand. It doesn’t change anything. I’m sorry — it’s a stupid question.” She reflected on her relationship, revealing that the dynamics between her and Diller remain unchanged regardless of his sexual orientation.

Diller, who is well-known for his significant contributions to the media industry, began his career in the mailroom of the talent agency William Morris before ascending to the roles of chief executive at ABC and chairman of Paramount Pictures. He eventually became chairman of the digital media company IAC after buying the home shopping network QVC, and married Von Furstenberg in 2001. Throughout his career, Diller revealed that his long-standing relationship with Von Furstenberg has often led to speculation about the nature of their bond, especially since he admitted to having romantic experiences with men in the past. However, he asserted that these encounters have never diminished the love he holds for his wife.

In his memoir, Diller recounted how his feelings for Von Furstenberg evolved from friendship to a passionate romance. “When my romance with Diane began, I never questioned that its biological imperative was as strong in its heterosexuality as its opposite had been,” he shared. He noted that their relationship developed unexpectedly, describing it as a “miracle” in his life that continues to defy conventional labels.

Despite the complexities of his sexuality, Diller reiterated that his love for Von Furstenberg is unwavering, insisting that “yes, I also liked guys, but that was not a conflict with my love for Diane.” In an industry rife with speculation, he emphasized the genuine affection and passion that characterize their partnership.

Apart from their personal lives, Von Furstenberg and Diller have built an impressive real estate portfolio, including properties in Connecticut, Manhattan, Beverly Hills, and a recent acquisition in Miami for $45 million. Their Connecticut retreat, named Cloudwalk, boasts an expansive garden and various amenities, while their Manhattan space features a stunning design that reflects Von Furstenberg’s artistic sensibilities.

Diane Von Furstenberg is set to receive the NYC Icon of Culture Award at the Perelman Performing Arts Center on October 28, a testament to her influence in the fashion industry and beyond. Both she and Diller continue to embody a unique partnership that thrives on love, mutual respect, and an appreciation of each other’s complexities. Their story serves as an example of how relationships can defy societal norms and foster understanding in an evolving world.
