Devonta Lee, a former wide receiver for LSU and Louisiana Tech, has tragically passed away at the age of 27. His death was confirmed by the LSU Athletics Department on Thursday afternoon, prompting a statement that reflected the deep sorrow felt within the LSU Football community: “The LSU Football family mourns the loss of former Tiger, Devonta Lee. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and teammates.”

Lee was recognized as a top-10 prospect in Louisiana during his high school career and joined LSU, where he played for two seasons. He contributed to the team’s success during the 2019 national championship season, recording a total of 11 receptions for 112 yards and scoring one touchdown in 2019 and 2021.

After completing his time at LSU, Lee transferred to Louisiana Tech. Unfortunately, during his time with the Bulldogs, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, following discomfort at a practice. Remarkably, after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, he was declared cancer-free a year later.

In light of Lee’s passing, Louisiana Tech also expressed their condolences on social media: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Devonta Lee, a former Bulldog wide receiver. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former teammates during this difficult time. He will always be remembered as a member of the Bulldog family.”

The heartbreaking loss of Devonta Lee serves as a reminder of the bonds formed in sports and the impact athletes can have on their communities. As both LSU and Louisiana Tech honor his legacy, Lee’s courage in facing his health challenges will be remembered fondly by many.
