A new chapter is beginning for the Devo Babas rugby team as they prepare for the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s, embracing a freshly revitalized roster. After showcasing impressive skills last year by reaching the quarter-finals, where they narrowly lost to the Fiji 7s team with a score of 12-19, the team is eager to build on that promising foundation.

This season marks a significant transformation as the Devo Babas introduce 12 new players to their lineup. The departure of several players—either to other teams or due to different commitments—has prompted the need for new talent. Team manager Isoa Natui explained that only two members from the previous year’s squad remain, with most of the newcomers set to experience their first Coral Coast 7s.

Natui acknowledged the challenges faced by last year’s group, which contributed to the current overhaul. He noted, “We had a few disciplinary issues with our old players, which has shifted the dynamics of the team.” The new recruits are primarily young athletes hailing from various clubs, including Nadroga and Yasawa, who have been diligently training over the past two weeks.

Despite the challenges of assembling a predominantly new team, the Devo Babas remain optimistic about their prospects in this highly prestigious tournament. Natui remarked, “As we all know, this is the biggest 7s tournament in Fiji. It will be a tough encounter. Our goal is to perform our best, and we have faith in the talent of our team.”

The Devo Babas are fully committed to supporting their former teammates who have moved on, wishing them well in their new endeavors. Additionally, the team expresses heartfelt appreciation for the continuous support from players’ parents and the local community, which has been instrumental in their preparations.

With a fresh outlook and a determined spirit, the Devo Babas are set to make their mark at this year’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s. This tournament presents an exciting opportunity for young players to showcase their skills on a prestigious platform, and the team’s dedication to hard work and teamwork reflects their aim to represent both their team and community with pride.
