Detroit Lions hint at defensive lift as McNeill nears return for Week 7 vs Buccaneers

The Detroit Lions made some key roster adjustments on Tuesday, typically a day off for the team, as they prepare for their upcoming Monday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7. The Lions waived safety Loren Strickland from their active roster, signifying a potential shift in their depth chart.

While they have not made any immediate additions to the 53-man roster, this may indicate that defensive tackle Alim McNeill could be nearing activation from injured reserve. Head coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism about McNeill’s situation during his pre-practice press conference.

Additionally, the Lions re-signed two players to their practice squad who they had waived over the weekend. Defensive tackle Chris Smith and offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun both returned after going unclaimed on waivers.

In a further move to bolster their defensive capabilities, the Lions added experienced cornerback Kendall Fuller to the practice squad. The 30-year-old Fuller, who played for the Miami Dolphins last season, has an extensive background in the NFL, having been a third-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2016. He has also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and is the younger brother of former Lions wide receiver Corey Fuller. Despite facing health challenges in the past two seasons due to concussions, Fuller has been able to demonstrate his fitness recently.

The roster changes come as the Lions look to maintain momentum in their season, aiming for a strong performance against the Buccaneers. With McNeill’s possible return and Fuller’s experience, Detroit hopes to reinforce its lineup and enhance its competitiveness in the league.
