Three talented track and field athletes from Palm Desert High School, Nick Dangleis, Jax Penny, and Oliver Carr, are gearing up to compete in the prestigious Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon. This event marks a significant milestone in their athletic careers.
For junior Nick Dangleis, competing at such a high level is both thrilling and an honor. He expressed, “It’s thrilling just getting the opportunity to run there is just an honor in itself, and I just am excited to compete.”
Sophomore Jax Penny also shared his disbelief upon receiving the invitation to the national event, initially thinking it might not be real. “I was ecstatic,” he said, after confirming the invite from Dangleis.
Oliver Carr’s journey to the nationals was particularly challenging; he faced multiple rejections before finally receiving his acceptance just last week. “It was very nerve-wracking, and I mean, I’m very excited that I was accepted,” he noted, emphasizing his determination to give it his all at the competition.
All three athletes have put in extensive training throughout the season, focusing on their performances as they prepare for the event on June 19th. Dangleis highlighted the need to stay focused on improvement, stating, “Just got to make sure I can become the best track athlete possible.”
With their strong teamwork and mutual support, the young athletes are thrilled to compete together. Dangleis said, “It’s great to be going with my best friend, and I’m just happy that both of us have this opportunity.”
This achievement showcases the potential and dedication of these athletes, motivating them to strive for even greater success in their athletic careers. As they embark on this exciting journey, there is a sense of pride in representing their Valley community on such a national stage.
This upcoming competition not only allows the athletes to demonstrate their skills but also inspires other young athletes in the area, proving that hard work and perseverance can lead to remarkable opportunities.
