Deryck Whibley, the lead singer of Sum 41, has addressed rumors regarding his potential role as the new singer for Linkin Park, as well as for Oasis. In a recent social media update, Whibley clarified that any upcoming announcements from him are unrelated to these speculations.
On the same day that a significant announcement from Linkin Park was expected, Whibley took to social media to clarify the situation. He wrote, “I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It has been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis … or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”
Whibley indicated that he intends to reveal his own “tour and book” announcement later in the week, coinciding with the start of their U.S. tour. He expressed his enthusiasm for whatever the two bands will do in the future.
As for Linkin Park, they have not yet disclosed details about their Wednesday announcement. Oasis has confirmed plans for a 2025 reunion tour, while Linkin Park’s situation remains unclear. Four of the band’s five surviving members have promoted the announcement on social media, although drummer Rob Bourdon’s absence from social platforms leaves his participation uncertain.
Fans are speculating about a possible reunion with festival appearances, which would require a vocalist to stand in for Mike Shinoda following Chester Bennington’s death in 2017. Earlier this year, it was rumored that the band was considering a reunion and that a female vocalist might join them; however, Evanescence’s Amy Lee has clarified she is not involved.
Stay tuned for more updates on Linkin Park’s announcement.
