Derrick Henry on the Brink of NFL Greatness: Will He Break More Records?

PITTSBURGH — Derrick Henry continues to establish himself as one of the top talents in football, as evidenced by his remarkable performance this season. The Ravens running back recently achieved his second $500,000 incentive after scoring a 1-yard touchdown run. This impressive feat brought his total to 15 touchdowns for the season, which tied him for the franchise record for single-season touchdowns, sharing the honor with legends Ray Rice and Mark Ingram.

Henry previously activated his first $500,000 incentive by accumulating 13 touchdowns. Before the recent game, he had 12 rushing touchdowns alongside two receiving touchdowns. With six games remaining in the season, he has consistently scored at least once in every game thus far.

As he aims for a third incentive, Henry is nearing 1,200 rushing yards for the season. Heading into Week 11, he had 1,120 rushing yards and was just 28 yards shy after his most recent touchdown. Given his average of 112 rushing yards per game, he is well-positioned to achieve this milestone and potentially gain another $1 million.

The remaining incentives in his contract include targets for 1,500 rushing yards and a combined 1,000 rushing yards coupled with a Super Bowl victory. With over five games left this season, Henry is on track to hit the 1,500-yard mark as well.

If he meets all of his incentive goals, Henry stands to earn an additional $2.5 million on top of his existing two-year, $16 million contract. Notably, these incentives are classified as not-likely-to-be-earned, which means they will affect the 2025 salary cap instead of the upcoming 2024 cap.

In addition to these financial benchmarks, Henry has reached significant career milestones with the Ravens. Notably, in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, he surpassed 10,000 career rushing yards and reached 100 career rushing touchdowns, becoming only the fifth player in NFL history to achieve such a record within 125 games.

Henry is also just one game away from tying the NFL record for the most games with 150 rushing yards or more, currently holding 14 such games. A 15th game would put him alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Brown.

This season has been a testament to Henry’s talent and determination, highlighting his potential to leave a lasting legacy in the NFL. As he continues to break records and earn incentives, fans can remain hopeful for his future contributions to the game and the potential success of the Ravens as they pursue a championship.
