Derek Carr’s Injury: What’s Next for the Saints’ Quarterback?

Derek Carr, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, suffered an oblique injury during the fourth quarter of Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which ended in a 26-13 defeat for the Saints. Following the game, Carr expressed concern about his condition, stating, “Not good,” and mentioned plans to undergo an MRI on Tuesday to assess the injury.

Carr’s exit from the game occurred with 9:32 remaining after he threw an incomplete pass on a crucial fourth down attempt. He was seen holding his hip as he left the field and subsequently went to the injury tent for evaluation before heading to the locker room with medical personnel.

Despite the injury, Carr maintained confidence in the team’s ability to win until he was hurt. He explained that he felt the oblique issue during the throw and emphasized that the problem was not about enduring pain but rather his inability to make effective throws. He inquired with the medical staff about a potential return to the game but was informed there wasn’t sufficient time for him to re-enter.

Jake Haener took over at quarterback for the Saints following Carr’s departure. Carr further elaborated on his situation, noting, “It wasn’t like dealing with pain… I just can’t do what I want to do.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carr expressed uncertainty about his status but affirmed, “I’m going to do anything I can to make sure I’m there on Sunday.” This injury marks the fourth time in his two seasons with the Saints that Carr has had to leave a game due to injury. Last season, he dealt with a sprained AC joint in his shoulder and was placed in concussion protocol twice, missing games against the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions.
