Derek and Hayley Hough have a remarkable survival story to share. The couple is currently working on a documentary that will revisit the terrifying moment when Erbert collapsed backstage during their Symphony of Dance tour in December.
The documentary, titled Voyeur Verite Presents, is directed by Jason Bergh, known for The Greatest Love Story Never Told, and produced by Bergh and Stephan Bielecki. Executive producers include Derek Hough, Jeff Goldenberg, and Courtney Carter, with Matt Bass as the director of photography.
During a recent episode of Dancing with the Stars, Hough recounted the shocking moment he learned that his wife was experiencing full seizures and was in critical danger. He was on stage waiting for her when the stage manager delivered the alarming news.
Following the incident, doctors cautioned Hough that Erbert might not survive her emergency craniectomy. Even if she did, they warned, she might not be the same person afterward and might struggle to walk again.
In an inspiring turn of events, Erbert not only survived the surgery but also made a complete recovery. She rejoined her husband on tour and made a triumphant return to the DWTS ballroom, performing an impressive contemporary dance with Hough on Dedication Night.
