In the 25th week of Turkey’s Süper Lig, a highly anticipated derby match between Beşiktaş and Galatasaray is set to take place, with referee Ozan Ergün officiating the game. Ahead of this crucial encounter, Abdullah Kavukcu, the Vice President of Galatasaray Sportif AŞ, addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding referee management, particularly in light of earlier comments made by Beşiktaş President Serdal Adalı.

Kavukcu expressed concern over Adalı’s habitual critiques regarding the refereeing of Galatasaray’s matches. He referenced last year’s incident where referee Frankowski was unjustly dismissed under pressure. “I see that Serdal President has unfortunately made this a habit. They make referee-related statements before every match. We hope our young referee can officiate without any external pressure and complete the match without controversy,” Kavukcu stated.

Additionally, Kavukcu reflected on recent transfers, noting the positive contributions of new players like Nhaga. Despite his intriguing performance, Nhaga was not included in the Champions League roster. Kavukcu emphasized that the coaching staff is still working on integrating him into the team.

Responding to concerns about the capabilities of Ozan Ergün, Serdal Adalı had previously stated that Ergün is a young referee without significant experience in high-stakes matches. He reiterated Beşiktaş’s commitment to ensuring fair play and emphasized the trials they have faced with referees in previous games, particularly calling on the Turkish Football Federation to address the challenges in VAR officiating. Adalı hopes that this time, the warnings regarding referee performance will be heeded, aiming for a match where the focus remains on team performances rather than officiating.

As the derby approaches, the anticipation is palpable, and both clubs are eager for a fair and competitive match that will adhere to the principles of justice and equality in officiating. There is a sense of optimism among fans that the young referee will rise to the occasion, ensuring a memorable showdown between two of Turkey’s football giants.
