An evacuation order has been enacted near the Broomfield-Boulder county line following the onset of a wildfire that has generated significant smoke plumes, which are being intensified by strong winds. This situation is unfolding close to Highway 287 and Dillon Road, located in the northwestern region of the Denver metro area.

On Monday afternoon, residents observed smoke rising in the vicinity. The evacuation order impacts a wide area, including open spaces and residential homes in a Lafayette neighborhood just north of Dillon Road, west of Highway 287, and south of Highway 42. As a safety measure, Highway 287 has been shut down to facilitate firefighting efforts.

Authorities are actively controlling the situation, with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office advising individuals to steer clear of the area surrounding 104th and Dillon Road where the fire originated. Vinnie Montez, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, reported at 3:25 p.m. that the fire south of Northwest Parkway in Boulder County is progressing eastward, prompting the launch of evacuations.

Strong westerly winds are contributing to the rapid movement of the flames, with gusts reaching speeds of approximately 35 mph recorded at around 3:15 p.m., according to Chief Meteorologist Dave Aguilera from First Alert.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by wildfires in the region, prompting authorities to prioritize public safety and community awareness. As efforts to extinguish the fire continue, the collaboration between local agencies aims to protect lives and property. The resilience of the community during such emergencies is a testament to their dedication to safety and support for one another.
