At just 21 years old, Theilvig is not only a titleholder but also an animal protection advocate, entrepreneur, and a former professional dancer. In the finale, Theilvig outperformed her competitors, including the first runner-up, Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria, and the other top five finalists: Maria Fernanda Beltran Figueroa from Mexico, Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand, and Ileana Marquez Pedroza from Venezuela. Notably, Miss USA, Alma Cooper, did not place this year, following a turbulent period within her pageant’s organization.
The 73rd Miss Universe competition took place in Mexico City, which was hosting the event for the first time in nearly two decades. The show was co-hosted by Mario López and Olivia Culpo, Miss Universe 2012, with additional commentary provided by former titleholder Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall.
