Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, representing Denmark, has made history by being crowned Miss Universe 2024, marking the first time a Danish contestant has achieved this honor. Her excitement was palpable as she jumped for joy when asked who she was shortly after her win, declaring, “Miss Universe!”

At just 21 years old, Theilvig is not only a titleholder but also an animal protection advocate, entrepreneur, and a former professional dancer. The day after her crowning, she shared a snapshot of herself, proudly wearing her crown and sash while enjoying the morning light. She expressed her gratitude for the journey ahead, stating, “First sunrise as Miss Universe… Waking up with gratitude, dreams, and a crown − ready to embrace this incredible journey.”

In the finale, Theilvig outperformed her competitors, including the first runner-up, Chidimma Adetshina from Nigeria, and the other top five finalists: Maria Fernanda Beltran Figueroa from Mexico, Opal Suchata Chuangsri from Thailand, and Ileana Marquez Pedroza from Venezuela. Notably, Miss USA, Alma Cooper, did not place this year, following a turbulent period within her pageant’s organization.

The 73rd Miss Universe competition took place in Mexico City, which was hosting the event for the first time in nearly two decades. The show was co-hosted by Mario López and Olivia Culpo, Miss Universe 2012, with additional commentary provided by former titleholder Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall.

This victory for Miss Denmark brings a positive spotlight to not just Denmark but also inspires young women around the world, showing that with passion and dedication, achieving one’s dreams is possible. Theilvig’s commitment to animal advocacy further underscores the importance of social responsibility in the pageant realm, indicating a shift towards a more meaningful representation.
