Victoria Kjær Theilvig from Denmark has made history by being crowned Miss Universe during the 73rd edition of the pageant held in Mexico City. Kjær, who is passionate about animal protection and is involved in the diamond industry, triumphed over Miss Nigeria, while Miss Mexico secured the third position.
This victory marks the first time a contestant from Denmark has won the prestigious title. The vibrant event took place at the Mexico City Arena, an impressive venue that accommodates up to 20,000 attendees, where supporters passionately cheered and waved flags from their respective countries.
The grand celebration kicked off with a performance featuring 131 mariachi musicians, accompanied by singer Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, who entertained the crowd with “Mexicana,” a special song composed by Emilio Estefan for the occasion.
The gala was hosted by a star-studded lineup that included Mario López, former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo (2012), presenter Zuri Hall, and Catriona Gray, who held the title in 2018. Organizers revealed that over 120 contestants participated this year, and several countries made their debut, such as Belarus, Eritrea, Guinea, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, and Uzbekistan.
Notably, this marks the third time that Mexico has hosted the Miss Universe pageant, reaffirming the country’s commitment to celebrating diversity and beauty on an international stage.
Overall, Kjær’s win is not just a personal achievement but also a significant moment for Denmark. With her advocacy for animal protection, she sets a positive example that beauty contests can also highlight important social issues.
